The Training course is a continuous assessment of a students ability.
The course timings on the joining notes are not set in stone things are flexible.
Although very informal the course is quite intense with a couple of questionaire forms thrown in, in the morning. Even the most experienced riders will learn something from the classroom modules. So be prepared to put your bum on a seat for periods of the first day.
Lunch break is normally around 12.30 lunch is not provided although Tea, Coffee and Water are, we always have Bananas and Biscuits and if your lucky sweeties. So bring a packed lunch and any other drinks you prefer.
Personal riding skills module
After lunch we get onto the saddle and demonstrate our personal riding skills for the Instructors. ( it’s always difficult with someone watching)
If the weather is fair as in April 07 then you can really enjoy showing off your riding prowess but on wetter days with the drip drip off the trees it’s not so much fun.
Back inside by about 3.45 and time for a quick brew and a biscuit, then on with a short exam so, that’s about 4.30.
Now get ready with your map (your course notes told you which one) for the next exercise planning a cycle ride for a group and all the Health and Safety implications that that encompasses.
No one said this course would be easy or that you would have an early finish, don’t expect to get away on either day before 6 to 6.30.
If you are going to attain L1 or L2 in MIAS you must be prepared for a little sacrifice. It will pay dividends when your qualified.

We start sharp at 09.00 on Sunday ( if you decided to go out on the beer last night don’t even bother we don’t suffer fools). After another exam we are off into the wide blue yonder following the route that we planned last night.
We expect to be back at the training school for mid to late afternoon. A de-brief takes place covering the ride over a brew.
The assessment follows and is conducted on an individual one on one basis. Those that have to travel the furthest go first. MIAS Log-books will be issued and your Certificate will come through the post about a week later. You can now apply to the Association of British Cycling Coaches through MIAS for personal insurance that will cover you for £5 million. I believe the fee is £39.00
If you would like to do a L1 or L2 course we need a deposit of £99 to book your place if you drop out within 10 working days of the course date you lose £75.
Ready for the ride and assessment
